Baltimore Enamel received the contract to provide porcelain license plates to the
city of Louisville, KY in 1908, producing an estimated 500 1908-09 porcelains -
perhaps all at once in one batch. The company apparently managed to retain this
contract through the last of the city's porcelain plates in 1911-12, but only on the
first plate - the blue & white porcelain expiring in May of 1909 - did Baltimore
Enamel use its date coding system before switching over to their familiar oval seal.
